Pacquiao vs. Margarito quick fight notes

DALLAS, TX - Word yesterday from promoter Top Rank that Kelly Pavlik is off the November 13 Manny Pacquiao vs. Antonio Margarito card at Cowboys Stadium. Top Rank says a rib injury while ESPN's boxing reporter Dan Rafael is wondering if it's not due to an alcohol problem.

Pavlik was to face Brian Vera and that fight is now totally scrapped in favor of a fight featuring young star Brandon Rios vs. TBA.

While both Pacquiao and Margarito may weigh the same amount for a few moments at the weigh-in November 12, you have to wonder about Margarito at times weighing over 20 pounds more for fights and being almost six inches taller than Pacquiao as they both get to the fight at Cowboys Stadium.

You have to believe Margarito will put up a much better fight against Pacquiao than Joshua Clottey did. Clottey fought a defensive fight for 12 rounds and did just enough to survive.

Never one to miss an opportunity, promoter Jerry Jones had a salesperson selling discounted fight tickets at the Maple Avenue Boxing Gym last Saturday when HBO analyst Emanuel Steward was giving a clinic to a packed house of Dallas-Fort Worth boxing officials.

Like the Pacquiao - Clottey fight, the host hotel for the fight is the Gaylord Texan in Grapevine.

Francisco Espinosa is the co-manager of Antonio Margarito (38-6, 27 knockouts), who is training at the Robert Garcia Boxing Academy in Oxnard, Calif.,for a Nov. 13, HBO pay-per-view televised, Top Rank Promotions battle opposite WBO welterweight (147 pounds) king Manny Pacquiao (51-3-2, 38 KOs).

Pacquiao takes a 12-fight winning streak that includes eight KOs into his bout in pursuit of the WBC's junior middleweight (154 pounds) title.

Pacquiao is in pursuit of an eighth title in as many different weight divisions, and is trained by Freddie Roach, a man who has accused Margarito of knowingly competing in several fights with an illegal, plaster-like substance in the hand wraps beneath his gloves.

In this video, Espinosa says, "Should we start talking about anti-doping," among other things, in regard to Pacquiao during his angry response to Roach's most recent assertions.
